One calm evening, Oogway and Shifu were taking a stroll along the Peach Blossom Walk. They would always do this at the end of the day, discussing the progress that each disciple had made.
Suddenly Oogway asked Shifu, “Are you confident of leading the School on your own?”
Shocked, Shifu could only stammer.
With a gentle laugh, Oogway patted Shifu on the back and said, “Come, my dear friend. It is not such a hard task. The disciples are all growing and I must find new direction for the School. It is time I headed off for my yearly meditation.”
“But Master,” Shifu protested, “this is too soon! I need more time, more lessons!”
“You worry too much my friend,” said Oogway. “Very well, you can have all the time you need.”
As the days went by, Shifu took for granted that Oogway would never leave until he said he was ready. SO he was very shocked when he found a note from Oogway in the Dragon Scroll Hall telling him that he had left for his meditation trip.
Not knowing when Oogway would return, Shifu anxiously started planning the lessons and training for all the disciples, always worried that Oogway could come back anytime and not be pleased at the state of the School.
Recalling all that Oogway had taught him, Shifu set about his duty as Head of the School. He soon realised that running the School was not an easy job and that he had underestimated the amount of work Oogway had to do.
Using Oogway’s teachings and manuals, Shifu came up with newer and better programs for all the disciples. One by one, they started to show so much progress that Shifu was able to pick out his elite group, the Furious Five.
When Oogway finally returned, needless to say, he was very pleased with what Shifu had achieved.
“I knew you could do it, my friend”, he said “you just needed a little push to help you get started.”

Po was tired after a long day of training. The all-important Kungfu Championship was just around the corner and Shifu was making all the disciples train harder.
With a huge sigh, Po flopped down onto his bed. Besides the strenuous training schedule, he had one more problem the other disciples did not have: he was overweight. Thus, he did not meet the Championship weight requirement and would not be able to take part. Shifu was pressuring him to lose more weight.
“But how can I when the training takes up so much of my energy?” he whined to himself.
Just then, Oogway entered the room.
“G-g-good afternoon, Master Oogway. I-I was...”
“It is all right, Po. Relax. I just came to see how you were. Preparing yourself for the Championship?”
“Err, yes. I mean! No, Master Oogway.”
“Ah yes. I think Master Shifu mentioned something about Championship requirements not being met?” asked the wise Oogway.
Too ashamed to speak, Po just stared at his toes.
“Let me tell you a story, Po.”
And Master Oogway told Po his story, of how he used to be an overweight turtle and was never chosen to represent the Valley of Peace in the Kungfu Championship.
“So what did you do?” asked Po in awe.
Master Oogway then revealed that his teacher then, Master Baitoo, taught him a very old kungfu move, called Stretching Lion Seeking Serpent. If he practiced it regularly, the kungu move would give him the shape of an ideal fighter.
So every day, Po trained with Master Oogway, trying his best to perfect the move. In time, he lost just enough weight to meet the Kungfu Championship and brought honour to the Valley of Peace.
